Enchanted Music

I might be alone, but I hated the music in Enchanted. No particular reason that I can point to, I just didn't like it. To my ears, it never really lived up to the Disney classics, such as:

Feel free to disagree or one-up me with other Disney songs.

And as a supplement to the excellent CD Andy made for us, I would suggest the following tracks for this semester:

Coldplay - Cemeteries of London (England, graveyard, ghosts, witches... perfect Graveyard Book song)
Murder by Death - Comin' Home (Werewolf overtones, a la Kelly Link)
Mew - She Came Home for Christmas (Creepy child abuse theme, harped by Joe Hill)
Symphony X - Awakenings (Wishing well, shown in Enchanted)
Porcupine Tree - Lazarus (Ghosts... kinda)
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris (Works for that short story with angels)
Nightwish - Beauty of the Beast (Gothic vampire theme)

  1. On Disney songs, Enchanted didn't have any songs that I would call my favorite Disney songs. It has some very catchy songs. But my favorite songs are "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast or "Bare Necessities" from The Jungle Book. But I have to admit, I do enjoy the song posted above.

  2. Holy eff. The Hunchback of Notre Dame has always been one of my favorite Disney soundtracks, hands down. I just love it, LOVE IT. "Out There" and "Heaven's Light/Hell Fire" are just AWESOME.

  3. Lazarus = amazing. One of my favorite musical memories is seeing them perform that live. Really, that whole album is amazing. When I was trying to come up with additional fantasy songs Nightwish definitely crossed my mind also. Lots of their songs have fantasy/supernatural themes to them. Symphony X is the same way. Many of their songs could have been used on a list like this. You have fabulous taste in music by the way =)

  4. I actually hadn't seen Hunchback until a few years ago. It immediately replaced The Lion King/Pocahontas as my favorite Disney soundtrack, because the music was incredible.

OMG, Sara #2, I would donate one of my testicles to see Porcupine Tree live! Where was this?! Everything they've released since In Absentia has been pure gold. But yeah, Prog Rock relies on the fantasy themes pretty heavily, so we could make an entire CD featuring that genre. And thanks. :)

  5. I've actually seen them twice, both times in Atlanta. Two of the best concerts I have ever been to, and I've been to a lot of concerts. If you get the opportunity to go, definitely take advantage of it. They stick around after the show for as long as they possibly can to sign stuff and chat. We got to hang out with them for nearly 2 hours after one of the shows. Steven Wilson is just brilliant and listening to him talk about his music will make you love it even more.
